Welcoming Children in the Love of Christ

Welcoming Children in the Love of Christ

Children are a vital part of the church community, and at St. Philip's, we fully embrace Jesus' statement to his disciples: "Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven" (Matthew 19:14).

If you have any questions about children's ministry, please contact Dorothy Lancaster, our Director of Ministry to Children and Families.

Sunday Mornings and More

We offer Bible-centered worship and ministry for children ages 0–3rd grade during the 10:30 service year-round, and we offer Sunday school from 9:15–10:15 a.m. for children through 12th grade during the school year. We also get together often throughout the year for other fellowship and mission activities, including youth group (middle and high school), our annual Easter Egg Hunt, and Vacation Bible School (VBS)!

Infants and Toddlers

A nursery is available for children ages 0–3 during the Sunday school hour (9:15–10:15 a.m.) when it's in session and during the 10:30 a.m. service year-round. Time spent in the nursery includes play, a Bible story, songs, and a hands-on activity. A wide range of developmental toys and books are available, and children are lovingly cared for by our trained staff and volunteers. Children in the nursery during the Sunday school hour may remain in the nursery through the 10:30 service.

An infant feeding/respite room equipped with a rocking chair and changing table is available for use during both the 8:15 and 10:30 a.m. services.

Ages 4–3rd grade

Sunday school is available for children ages 4–12th grade Rally Sunday (usually the first Sunday after Labor Day) through mid-May from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m.

Children's Church: Children are welcome to attend worship services with their parents, but we offer a special age-appropriate worship experience and lesson led by Dorothy Lancaster, Director of Ministry to Children and Families, during the 10:30 service year-round. The children learn the words and meaning of Scripture and how it applies to them, and they are encouraged to participate fully in the lesson, which usually involves a hands-on craft or activity that connects to the lectionary so that the children will hear the same message as their parents.

A children's worship/activity bulletin with crayons is available for children worshipping with their parents.

Sunday School | Confirmation

Ages 4–12th grade

Beginning after Labor Day and through mid-May, we provide faith formation for all ages on Sunday mornings from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m. (adult classes begin at 9:30 a.m. to give parents ample time to drop off younger children). Classes are divided by age and are taught by dedicated staff and volunteers from our congregation. We use a Bible-centered curriculum, giving children and youth a strong overview of the story of salvation and how it ties to a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

Confirmation class is a year-long course designed to help students explore the foundations of the Christian faith, grow in their relationship with Christ, and prepare to make a personal commitment to live as his disciple. Most students are in 7th grade, though we gladly welcome those in other grades who feel ready to take steps to make a mature, public affirmation of their faith.

Registration for Sunday School other than Confirmation Class is is not necessary if your family is already in our management system (if you’ve previously registered for St. Philip’s events or activities). Please fill out one of the forms below if you are new to St. Philip’s or have a child interested in Confirmation!

Generations Ministry

Grandparenting With Purpose

God has given each of us the power to influence future generations. What we do with the faith he has given us does impact our children and our children's children.

Generations Ministry at St. Philip's holds events about once a month to encourage grandparents and equip them with the ministry tools they need for their role in their grandchildren's lives. Please join us as we seek the Lord, reflect on Scripture, and explore some resources that will help our children and grandchildren know the great love of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Construction notice:
The graveyard and sanctuary are closed to weekday visitors due to construction and renovations taking place as part of our Shine the Light capital campaign.
